Skull Found In Vacant San Jose Home

May 13 (BCN) -- San Jose police spokesman Sgt. Steve Dixon reports that the
department has opened a homicide case in connection with a skull found in a
vacant home Tuesday, but at this time the case does not appear to have been
murder.

A real estate appraiser was checking out a vacant house in the 3000 block of
Lynview Drive in East San Jose at around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday when the skull
was discovered in a box in the garage, Dixon said.

Dixon said a forensic anthropologist is analyzing the skull to determine its
gender and age. According to a Santa Clara County Coroner's Office
spokesman, the anthropologist believes the skull to be Native American.
Dixon said it is likely very old.

Police found no signs of foul play in the house and plan to continue
investigating the incident to determine who lived there prior to it becoming
vacant. Dixon said the house had been vacant for several years.
