(BCN) A San Francisco police officer was injured after
trying to intervene in a conflict Monday afternoon,
according to a police spokesman.
The incident occurred around 6 p.m. in the area of the
800 block of Mission Street.
The spokesman said an officer on foot witnessed two men
fighting and approached them. One of the men ran and the
officer gave chase, according to the spokesman.
At some point, the man jumped into a waiting vehicle,
the spokesman said.
When the officer tried to pull the suspect from the
vehicle, the driver accelerated and the officer was
dragged, the spokesman said.
A San Francisco fire spokesman said the officer did not
sustain serious injuries.
The incident sparked a police pursuit that ended in Daly
City near John Daly Boulevard and Interstate Highway
280.
California Highway Patrol Officer Shawn Chase said the
suspect in the pursuit caused a minor crash on the John
Daly Boulevard off-ramp of I-280 at about 6:10 p.m.
Chase said the crash occurred when the driver of the
suspect vehicle tried to push through cars that were
stopped at a traffic light. He said no one was injured
in that crash.
The driver of the suspect vehicle stopped a short
distance from the off-ramp and the suspect attempted to
flee on foot, but Chase said he believes the perpetrator
was taken into custody.
San Francisco police were not immediately available to
provide additional details on the chase.
